HANA Resources, Inc. is a full-service environmental consulting firm headquartered in Lake Forest, CA. We have an immediate need for Mid-level Biologist/ Restoration Ecologist with 3-5 years of related experience in wildlife biology and knowledge of local southern California flora and fauna. The ideal candidate will help support our biological resources group in the Southern California region. The candidate must demonstrate previous success in managing projects without supervision.

Roles & Responsibility

  • Perform botanical data collection procedures (e.g., point/line intercept transects, quadrat sampling, CRAM); statistical design and analysis, interpretation, and document presentation; experience in USFWS/CDFW documentation and consultation support; wetland and/or riparian ecology and hydrology; soil science; and/or plant taxonomy.
  • Construction monitoring, compliance reporting, and worker environmental awareness training.
  • Preparing and implementing habitat restoration mitigation and monitoring plans, overseeing landscape crews, and monitoring for habitat restoration success.
  • Prepare, design, and implement habitat restoration plans and habitat mitigation and monitoring plans, and associated matrices for tracking compliance.
  • Manage task orders, including administrative duties, such as staffing, scheduling, budgeting to meet project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, or related Natural Resources field required.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in performing focused wildlife surveys and experience in southern California biological resources. Relevant experience with California and southwestern ecosystems and knowledge of local southern California flora and fauna.
  • Ability to identify common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout southern California.
  • Demonstrate initiative, good verbal and written communication skills, independent thinking, good problem-solving skills, technical field skills and knowledge of ecology, conservation biology, habitat restoration, and creativity.
  • Possess strong leadership skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, and exemplary work habits, especially related to safety, common sense, punctuality, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate strong relationships with clients and confidence in consulting with contractors, agencies, and regulators
  • Ability to travel regionally. In addition, as this position could involve field work to remote areas, the applicant must be able to travel to and work in rugged terrain during inclement weather.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of applicable state and federal environmental regulations including federal and state endangered species acts, clean water act, California Fish and Game Code, CEQA and NEPA.
  • Project/task management experience is required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • OSHA 30 or 40 hour is a plus.

We have an immediate need for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist 1 with 1-3 years of related experience. The ideal candidate will help support our GIS group in the Southern California region.

Roles & Responsibility

  • Perform data analysis, produce maps and reports, provide technical guidance on all geographic information systems projects, and perform other related duties as required.
  • Work with ArcGIS Desktop (or comparable software) on a daily basis; understanding of accepted cartographic principles and the ability to create professional maps, tables, and charts.
  • Use coordinate geometry (COGO) methods and tools to create spatial data from legal descriptions of easements from recorded documents and survey plats.
  • Research property records and encumbrances.
  • Compile and analyze spatial data from disparate sources and seamlessly integrate them into production workflows.
  • Upload and collect data using GPS units. (Collector for iPad, Trimble)
  • Able to efficiently and quickly utilize all available tools and datasets to find creative solutions to challenging problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, GIS, Earth Science, or Environmental Science.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in GIS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications: Outlook, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience using ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, Desktop, Catalog), Google Earth Pro, Python, Adobe Photoshop; experience with AgiSoft, Pix 4D, ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, eCognition, or other photogrammetry software preferred.
  • Experience using COGO to create spatial data from legal descriptions.
  • Highly motivated, active team-player with a positive attitude.
  • High level of computer proficiency.
  • Quick and competent learner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve problems and make independent decisions and judgments.
  • Capable of working independently and handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong leadership skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, and exemplary work habits, especially related to safety, common sense, punctuality, and adaptability.
